59 Burnham Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information SocialParty collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. SocialParty is an app for discovering local, time-bound events at venues and coordinating plans with friends.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account: When you sign in with Sign in with Apple (our only sign-in method), we receive a name and an email address from Apple. Apple lets you hide your real email and use a private relay address instead; if you do, we only ever see the relay address. We assign you a username (@handle) and you may set a display name.
- Profile: An optional profile photo you upload.
- Content you create: Venues and events you add, event cover photos and venue cover photos you upload, descriptions, hours, and contact details for venues you own.
- Social activity: Friend requests and friendships, groups you create or join and their invites, events you mark interest in ("going"), event invitations, and the dates/time-periods you mark yourself available.
- Reports: Information you submit when reporting a venue, event, or user.
Information collected automatically
- Location: To show nearby events, the app sends your device's location (latitude/longitude) when you load the events feed. We store your most recent location and the time it was recorded to power "nearby event" notifications. We do not continuously track your location in the background.
- Device & push tokens: A push-notification token for your device and whether it is a development or production device, so we can deliver notifications.
- Server logs: Standard request logs, which may include your IP address, the actions you take, and timestamps.
Information from Apple
- Sign in with Apple: Identity token used to authenticate you.
- Subscriptions: If you purchase a subscription (e.g., to claim a venue), Apple processes the payment. We receive subscription status and identifiers from Apple, not your payment card or financial details.
2. How We Use Information
We use your information to: create and secure your account; show you nearby and relevant events; operate friends, groups, availability, and invitations; deliver notifications you've enabled; process and manage subscriptions and venue claims; moderate uploaded images and respond to reports; maintain security and prevent abuse; and comply with legal obligations.
3. Information Visible to Other Users
SocialParty is social by design, so some information is shown to others:
- Public to any signed-in user: your username, display name, and profile photo; venues and public events you create; and the fact that you're attending a public event (you appear in its attendee list).
- Visible to your friends only: your upcoming events and your available dates.
- Visible to group members only: group membership, group invitations, and events tied to a group.
- Uploaded images (profile, venue, and event photos) are served from public web URLs, so anyone with the link to an image can view it.
4. Content Moderation
To keep explicit or graphic content off the platform, uploaded images are screened in two ways:
- On your device: When iOS "Sensitive Content Warning" is enabled, images are checked on your device using Apple's Sensitive Content Analysis. This check runs entirely on your device — the image is not sent anywhere for it.
- On our server: A reduced-size copy of each uploaded image is sent to Amazon Web Services (Amazon Rekognition) for automated content-moderation analysis. AWS analyzes the image to detect explicit, violent, or otherwise prohibited content and returns labels to us. Images that fail moderation are rejected and not stored.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that operate the app on our behalf:
- Apple — authentication (Sign in with Apple), push notifications (APNs), and subscription processing (App Store).
- Amazon Web Services — automated image moderation, as described above (processed in the United States region).
- Other users, as described in Section 3.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users or the public.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal profile and revoke your Sign in with Apple authorization. Note that venues and events you created remain on the platform but become unattributed ("ownerless"). Server logs and backups are retained for a limited period and then deleted on a rolling basis.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Account deletion: You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your account and revokes Apple sign-in.
- Profile photo: Add, change, or remove it in Settings.
- Notifications: Turn notification types on or off in Settings, or disable them in your device's iOS settings.
- Location: Manage location access in your device's iOS settings; declining it limits the nearby-events features.
- Subscriptions: Manage or cancel through your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Regional rights: Depending on where you live (e.g., the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these, contact us at privacy@59burnham.com.
8. Data Security
We protect your data with measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), token-based authentication with short-lived access tokens, and least-privilege access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
SocialParty is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Users
We operate from the United States, and our service providers (including AWS) may process data in the United States. If you use SocialParty from outside of the United States, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information there.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new effective date here and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
